Who: All writers invited 18 and up

What: Writing Classes, One-on-one time with editors and marketing expert, plus social time with other writers.

Classes at Stillwater Library

10:30-11:30 AM: Are you a pantser or a plotter? Do you have writer’s block?

In this class, we’ll talk about different ways writers plot their stories, and we’ll give inspiration for starting a new story. We’ll also discuss how to get into the mood of writing when dealing with writer’s block on a particular story.

11:30-12:30: How to use the 5 senses and character viewpoints.

We’ll show you how to find and add more realistic details to your story to make it a much more intriguing story and why details are so important. We’ll also discuss the differences of using certain character point of views, and why 1st person point of view or 3rd person point of view may work better in certain circumstances.

12:30-1:30: Lunch served at the library

1:30-2:30: Writing characters that live and breathe using emotion and real life dialogue.

Even writing your memoir, you need to show readers who you are as a person, life lessons, and character development. In this class, we’ll work on creating character backstory, developing characters that have dimension, and writing realistic dialogue.

2:30-3:30: How to have a great book launch party/book signing

In the afternoon, we’ll discuss the steps you need to take as a writer for marketing yourself and your book at libraries, book stores, and unique business locations, and what you need to do to plan in order to make every book signing a success.

3:30-4:30 PM: Learn innovative ideas on marketing your book on social media.

How to create a marketing routine for yourself so you’re not losing hours to social media, and branding yourself as an author to new readers. Tips and tricks of the trade to give you the edge on social media.

5 PM: Break for dinner at local restaurants

10:00-Noon: Editor Critiques in the Carriage House/Aurora Staples Inn—editors will talk one on one with writers about their work in progress. Writer social in the dining room at the Inn.

Noon-1:30: Break for lunch at local restaurants

1:30-4:00: Book signing at Stillwater Library

Authors who sign up for the full package and have a book available for sale will be asked to partake in the book signing at Stillwater Library. Limited space available.

*Writers are welcome to book their room at Aurora Staples Inn, or another local inn in the historic Stillwater district. This fee is separate from the retreat fee.

**Cancellations can be made up to March 17, 2020. After March 17, 2020, registration fees cannot be refunded.
